An ad for the fictional JAUNT speaker starts with courtroom whispers, then lets a song take over the room. It's a wonderfully bad place to demonstrate a portable speaker. The writing, performances and art direction make that serious little world convincing, so the change in atmosphere lands as a very good joke.

Pixel Agents gives the terminal a little life

A terminal can be a dark, lifeless place to watch work happen. Here, real coding-agent activity becomes a tiny office: characters type, read and ask for help in speech bubbles. The VS Code extension is useful, but its lovely extra is personality. Serious work gets to look funny, busy and a little bit silly.

Spreadsheet of You makes guesses look like facts

Then the cells start offering a name, an income and even “years left.” These are guesses and population statistics, not discoveries about your life. Yet the tidy labels and decimal points make them look authoritative. That's the clever, slightly uncomfortable joke: we have learned to trust the format.

StadiView makes the seat map feel out of date

Choose a seat and the camera takes you down into a 3D football stadium to try the view. This prototype makes the usual grid of numbered dots feel strangely inadequate. It's easy to imagine the same idea at a play or a concert, then wonder why choosing a seat isn't already more like this.

Lorem Ipsum turns placeholder text into a great idea

Mafia, Western and Samurai get the full cinematic treatment, with one thing missing: dialogue that means anything. Every line is placeholder text. The costumes, expressions and dramatic seriousness make the nonsense funnier. But the missing idea is itself the clever idea, and the beautiful execution is what lets that joke say something about how much ideas matter.
